What Intrigued Me As a Three-Year Old

When I was a three-year old, I remember, as far as my memory goes, we already had a television (black and white). There were two channels: one for children and one for adults. My parents let me watch both as a family together because there were no obscene scenes on either channel. Both of these mesmerized me and made me wonder how it was possible to create movies or cartoons? Back in those good old times, what else intrigued me? Read on to find out.

The camera and tape recorder were another two beautiful wonders for me.

With the camera clicked by my Dad and Mom helping to change my fanciful dresses, I posed for several clicks on then camera occasionally and when Dad brought in the photos (black and white), I would look at them in complete awe. How it was possible was my question again.

And then the tape recorder could play songs and music. Dad could also hear news on the radio portion of the tape recorder. That was enough awesome for me. But the day Dad recorded the conversation among my sister, Dad and me, I was completely spellbound when Dad played it back. It seemed like magic to me – yet I could only wonder and accept the reality of it all.

So television, camera and tape recorder were all we got all those years back; yet I was thankful and more than happy that my family possessed them.

But what about today, modern kids are not happy with what they have already. With the various wondrous gadgets coming in newer and modern supplies, who would not be tempted to have them? But it is up to you to make your kids realize that they cannot possess every single gadget out there but only once in a while and that you are on a budget without a limitless income.

The good news is that both modern kids and old generation kids (who have become adults by now) have one thing in common. They are willing to understand. If you can teach them the moral values and the right ethics, they will comply with your wishes and not demand in large numbers. If you can induce in them with rationality and logic why they don’t need everything out there, they are willing to listen and will hardly create chaos and overwhelm. They will remain at peace and harmony with you, without causing problems.
